The Daily Siege

We’re all pulled in a million different directions, and it’s easy to spend all day reacting and feeling like chaos is taking over. The daily grind of making a buck, household chores, personal care, and the onslaught of endless emails might leave us feeling like the character Phil from the movie Groundhog Day – “Well, what if there is no tomorrow? There wasn’t one today.”  Each day feels just like the day before…  If we weren’t so busy feeling anxious and overwhelmed by it all, we’d realize that we’re not really living – we’re trapped in a habitual pattern of uninspired drudgery – in one door and out the other without appreciating where we’ve been and where we are going.

But… what you do, and how you experience what you do is your life experience.  It is your life.  Have you ever wondered to yourself “am I living my best life? Is this where I am meant to be?” Do you want more from your short time on this earth? If you could dream it, where would you rather spend your time and energy in this precious life?  What would you like to learn and master?  What kind of relationships do you want to have with others?  What would you like to achieve or contribute?  What legacy do you want to leave behind?

In my home office, there is a framed newspaper article from October of 2011 honoring the life of Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs is quoted as once having said “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.  Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

This article displays as a reminder to me, there’s little difference between a rut and a shallow grave.  Every day is a quest for me to live the thrive. Will I, will you, take your dreams to the grave with you or will you live them here and now?
